  • linux skype client 2.1.0.47

This version seems to work very well. I could send an SMS, it worked.
For the rest of the features I didn’t see any regression.

    Thanks Skype :)

  • Xmas special (or why religions)

How can people buy something that doesn’t work?
How can a single individual think that the universe will really care of what he does when nobody is looking?
How is it that some persons decide to go blind (and suffering) through their lifes?
How can you take a bowl of lies for breakfast every single devoted day of you life?
Can anyone explain to me the guilt-that-leads-to-frustration-that-leads-to-anger-that-leads-to-more-guilt loop?
What kind of benefits come from religion (apart from money and power, that can be honestly gained through politics and/or corruption)?
Which are (in real life, real word) the advantages of religions (apart -of course- guilt)?
How will we explain to future generations that in the XXI st century, even before you were born, you had already millions of declared enemies only due to the fact that your local folks had superstitious beliefs that were not appreciated by their neighbours?
And, yes I was baptized when I was a child, without my consent (doesn’t matter), and I was a believer for the first 18 years of my life (matters a little), and then I became bad and cruel.

  • reactOS

Have you ever used freedos to flash the damn BIOS of your damn old home server motherboard?
This is not exactly freeDOS but you will understand what I’m saying if you try it.

    • free and binary compatible with windows XP.
    • not linux/unix based
    • runs out of the box inside virtualbox (was not a pun)
    • sound sucks (not even working)
    • tons of fun (ever tried dosbox?)
    • networking sucks (can’t create a pptpVPN nor connect to one
    • the default install only allows to use FAT partitions

summarizing the whole list & my win(dows) experience: I love it!

  • bike rider

Ride  a bike, don’t be shy. By one, put stickers on it, ride.

Ride it on rainy days, ride by night, ride up ‘n down the hills, on the city, alone, with friends.
    Ride in the snow:
    in the snow
Most of my cycle-life-cycle I’ve been using front suspension mountain bikes, I love their versatility, I can go from mad mountain biking to a supermarket ride and from a medium distance trip to some easy stunts to impress kids.

  • languages

I’ve been always curious about sounds, particularly those that can be spoken. I also had the luck of growing in a multilingual environment (Spanish, French, English) I’ve discovered through the years that:

    • A language is one of the most representative elements of any culture.
    • Translation is only a functional lie, to understand what you are reading, you must learn the language.
    • Bad accent and bad grammar are not issues to communicate, you will improve with practice.
    • Vocabulary must be huge, even if you are not fluent in a particular language, you should be able to say all body parts.
    • If you want to learn a new language, it’s always better if you have a human partner.

As an example, I write this blog in English, it is not perfect, but it allows me to communicate.

  • the OSes

why pay for something that is too complicated and will finally not work?
    why buying French cars?
why buying Chinese tools? (In previous both cases I’m talking ’bout the cheap ones)
    why hiring Chilean workers?
None of this will work, and it is usually a little bit more expensive that it was calculated.

Then, that’s when you decide to go for the big American expensive, energy eager, top hardware, obsolete technology muscle car that will run flawlessly for 30 years unless you forgot fueling it (every Wednesday).
Why buying an American OS that is crap? And expensive! and that will run flawless until you turn on your computer.
For almost the same money you can by a true OS that is as sexy as an OS can be, and it works, and it’s American too.
If all of this is too expensive, instead installing pirate Windows copies, tell you geek friends to install Linux (there is an aberration called Ubuntu (Ooh-boohn- tooh) that works out of the box, you can even choose you desktop environment painlessly.
    so, why?
    because everybody else does?
